ISI Mark Certificate Registration

ISI

ISI stands for the Indian Standards Institution, which is now known as the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).BIS is a government-mandated organization established to develop and maintain quality standards for products and services to ensure consumer safety and product quality. They provide certification for a wide range of products to indicate that they meet the specified Indian standards for quality and safety. When a product is ISI certified, it means that it has undergone testing and conforms to the relevant Indian standards set by BIS.

ISI certification is often seen as a mark of quality and safety in the Indian market. Products that commonly receive ISI certification include electrical appliances, electronics, industrial equipment, and various consumer goods. The ISI certificate is generally voluntary, but there are certain products for which it is mandatory. For example, electrical appliances, LPG valves, and LPG cylinders must have the ISI mark before they can be sold in India.Manufacturers who are found to be misusing the ISI mark can have their license suspended or revoked. The BIS also conducts regular inspections to ensure that manufacturers are complying with the terms of their license. Consumers can report counterfeit ISI marks to the BIS.

ISI Mark

The ISI mark is a logo, usually displayed on products, packaging, or in product documentation. Only manufacturers who have been granted an ISI certificate by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) are authorized to use the ISI mark on their products. The ISI mark is a registered trademark of the BIS, and its unauthorized use is illegal.

The Main Objectives of the ISI Certificate

Adhere to Indian standards: The ISI certificate ensures that products meet the quality and safety standards set by the BIS. This helps to protect consumers from unsafe products and also helps to promote fair competition among manufacturers.

Reduce waste: Products that meet ISI standards are less likely to be defective or fail prematurely. This helps to reduce waste and save resources.

Improve quality: The ISI certification process helps manufacturers to identify and improve the quality of their products. This can lead to better products for consumers and increased business success for manufacturers.

Increase safety: ISI certified products are generally safer to use than uncertified products. This helps to reduce accidents and injuries.

Promote trade: The ISI certificate is recognized in many countries around the world. This can help manufacturers to export their products to new markets.

In addition to these general objectives, the ISI certificate can also help businesses to:

  • Increase consumer confidence: Consumers are more likely to trust and purchase products that have the ISI mark.
  • Gain a competitive advantage: The ISI certificate can give businesses a competitive advantage over their competitors.
  • Improve brand image: The ISI certificate is a symbol of quality and safety, which can help to improve a business's brand image.

Procedure to Obtain ISI Certificate:

Step 1: Select product code: The first step is to select the appropriate product code for the product that you are seeking ISI certification for. The BIS has published a list of all product codes on its website.

Step 2: Fill application: Once you have selected the product code, you need to fill out an application form and submit it to the BIS. The application form can be downloaded from the BIS website.

Step 3: Pay audit fees for inspection: The BIS will charge a fee for the inspection of your factory and the testing of your products. The fee amount will vary depending on the type of product and the size of your factory.

Step 4: Inspection of factory by BIS officer: A BIS officer will visit your factory to inspect your facilities and processes. During this inspection, they will assess the manufacturing process, quality control procedures, and ensure that the facility complies with relevant standards. The officer will also collect samples of your products for testing.

Step 5: Random testing: The BIS will randomly select samples of your products for testing. The samples will be tested at a BIS-approved laboratory.

Step 6: Submit sample report: Once the samples have been tested, the laboratory will submit a report to the BIS. The report will indicate whether or not the samples meet the relevant IS specifications.

Step 7: Issuance of ISI certificate: If the samples meet the relevant IS specifications, the BIS will issue you an ISI certificate. The certificate will be valid for a period of one year.

Issuance of ISI Certificate

The issuance of an ISI certificate typically takes around 30 days from the date of application. However, the time may vary depending on the type of product, the size of the factory, and the workload of the BIS. For foreign manufacturers, the time may take up to 5-6 months.
Once issued, the ISI certificate is valid for a period of one year. Foreign manufacturers who have been granted an ISI certificate may be able to obtain a two-year extension upon request.
