Fire & Rescue POST Operational NOC

Fire Licences or NOCs are required to ensure the safety of premises and people , particularly in situations where there is a risk of fire. The issuance of a Fire Licence or NOC is necessary to ensure that proper fire safety precautions are taken in various scenarios.

Regulatory Authority:

The Directorate of Fire Service is the empowered authority responsible for issuing Fire Licences and NOCs under Section 13 of the Tamil Nadu Fire Service Act, 1985.

Circumstances Requiring Fire Licence / NOC:

a) Businesses and Trading Activities: Fire Licences or NOCs are required for businesses and trading activities as listed in the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services Rules.

b) Special Acts: Various Special Acts, including the Madras City Municipal Corporation Act, the Factories Act, the Arms Act, the Cinematographic Act, the Indian Explosives Act, and others, may require Fire Licences or NOCs under specific circumstances defined in these acts.

c) Building Plan Approval: Obtaining Building Plan Approval from the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority for multistoried buildings may also necessitate a Fire Licence or NOC, as it relates to ensuring fire safety in the construction and operation of such buildings.

How to Apply for a Fire License

Application for a Fire License should be made to the Divisional Fire Officer, located in the Head Quarters of every district in the following format.

The forms are available in all the 280 Fire Stations in the State and in the Divisional Offices. It can also be downloaded from the website.

The filled-in application form may be given at the nearest Fire Station or may also be sent directly to the Divisional Fire Officer, who is stationed at every District Head Quarters.

The Fire License will be issued by the Divisional Fire Officer to the application directly within 15 days from the date of presenting the application, either at the Fire Station or at the Divisional Fire Office.
