FSSAI stands for Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. It is a statutory body established by the Government of India under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 to govern and direct all food businesses in India.
It is the sole authoritative body controlled by the FSS act 2006, and all FBOs are liable to get an FSSAI registration as per the guidelines of food safety and standard Act 2006 and FSS regulations 2011. The FSSAI is responsible for laying down science-based standards for food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption. Fssai is formed to give the best product for consumption to improve the quality of the product to maintain the standards in India and its competitiveness in global markets.

FSSAI Registration

FSSAI registration refers to the mandatory process that every person or entity involved in the food business in India must undergo. The primary purpose of FSSAI registration is to regulate and monitor food businesses to ensure they comply with the safety and quality standards set by the authority. FSSAI registration is a legal obligation that signifies compliance with the standards outlined in the FSSAI Act of 2006. This registration process is integral to the government's broader initiative of establishing a "one nation, one quality" system for food products. In the FSSAI Registration process, the FBO will get a 14 digit number that needs to be printed on food packages. Once the FBO has obtained FSSAI registration, it must display the registration number prominently on its premises and on all its food products. This 14 digit FSSAI license number gives data about the producer's permit or enrollment subtle elements, and the assembling state.

General Requirements for FSSAI Registration

Obtaining FSSAI Registration Online

Food Business Operators (FBOs) play a vital role in ensuring the safety and quality of food products. To operate legally in India, FBOs must obtain a Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) registration certificate. The FSSAI registration process can be completed online, making it convenient for businesses of all sizes. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to obtain FSSAI registration online:

Step 1: Fill and Submit the FSSAI Registration Form

The first step is to access the FoSCoS portal, the official website for FSSAI registration. Choose the appropriate registration form, either Form A for petty food manufacturers or Form B for other types of food businesses. Provide accurate and complete information, including business details, owner's credentials, and food product details.

Step 2: Upload Required Documents

Along with the completed registration form, you'll need to upload supporting documents. These documents typically include a copy of the PAN card, business registration certificate, rent agreement or property tax receipt, affidavit on food safety standards, and a site plan of the food premises.

Step 3: Submit the Application

Once you've filled out the form and uploaded the required documents, review your application thoroughly to ensure all information is accurate and complete. Submit the application online and pay the applicable registration fee.

Step 4: Application Processing and Scrutiny

The FSSAI will receive your application and review it for completeness and compliance with regulations. If any information is missing or incorrect, you may be asked to provide additional details.

Step 5: Inspection of Food Premises

In some cases, the FSSAI may conduct an inspection of your food premises to verify compliance with food safety standards. This inspection may include checking the facilities, equipment, food handling practices, and record-keeping procedures.

Step 6: Grant of FSSAI Registration Certificate

FSSAI Registration for Petty Food Manufacturers

Petty food manufacturers with an annual turnover of less than Rs. 12 lakhs are also required to obtain an FSSAI registration certificate. These manufacturers typically include small-scale food producers, hawkers, itinerant vendors, and temporary stall holders. The registration process for petty food manufacturers is similar to the general process, with some minor modifications.
