Anyone who imports pre-packaged commodities or goods in India must apply for LMPC Registration Certificate before importing any pre-packaged goods or commodities in India under rule 27 of Legal Metrology Packaged Commodity rules of Department of Consumer Affairs.
Additionally, they must apply for registration under the Legal Metrology Packaged Commodities Rules, 2011. Legal Metrology India issues LMPC certificates to importers who import packaged commodities into India.
Pre-packed commodity defines a commodity which without the purchaser being present is placed in a package of whatever nature, whether sealed or not, so that the product contained therein has a pre–determined quantity.

What Is An LMPC Certificate For Importers?Those who import pre-packed commodities obligatorily apply to the Director of Legal Metrology in the Central government or the Controller of Legal Metrology in the state to get their name and address registered. Upon the approval of the application, the controller of Legal Metrology will issue the LMPC certificate. An LMPC registration is valid for a minimum of one year and a maximum of five years.
